C.A.S.K. and Wado Karate

The Cayman Associated Schools of Karate-do were founded by Sensei Greg Reid (8th Dan).

C.A.S.K. runs beginner, intermediate, and black belt programs year round, with students receiving a chance to compete nationally and abroad.  The style of karate taught is WADO, which is one of the four largest styles of karate in the world.  C.A.S.K. is affiliated with Wado Karate Association of Canada and Shintani Karate-do.

The word “WADO” means “school/way to peace”.  The style WADO was created by Hironori Otsuka (1892-1982) in 1934 in Japan.  Master Otsuka formed WADO from traditional shurite-type karate from Okinawa, concentrating on the use of light and quick movements in conjunction with hip and body shifting.  Master Otsuka also incorporated his earlier jujitsu into WADO Karate.

In North America, the late Master Masaru Shintani was the supreme head for all WADO; C.A.S.K. was under his direct guidance.  Master Shintani held a ninth degree black belt, and was Master Otsuka’s senior student.  Master Greg Reid is Master Shintani’s successor and is the technical director for Wado Canada.

CASK Karate now has classes for adults co-ed, women only and children at King's Sports Center in Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands under the direct tutelage of Sensei Greg Reid.

Adult Co-ed Karate

This class is a co-ed program offering beginner, intermediate and Black Belt training. Because it is very user friendly, new people can join any time and feel comfortable.

In this program, physical fitness (ie. flexibility, strength, stamina and coordination) are practiced in a very scientific and progressive manner. The student will learn beginner, intermediate and advanced karate as they develop with the belt system.  Self defense is also emphasized.

Our emphasis on physical, mental and spiritual training creates a very high level of karate student.

Don’t hesitate, karate is for you!

Women’s Karate

CASK karate is the only karate school offering this unique program. The Women’s Only class was originally pioneered and developed in Canada where it was highly successful. This class was developed using the science of how women learn, train and interact with each other.

The environment is communicative and supportive. The class is broken into three component parts thus making it easy to learn.

  • Physical Fitness

  • Karate Training.

  • Self-Defense.

All classes are incremental and because of its highly scientific approach, you will feel comfortable and learn easily and reach your goals at your own pace. In this class you can work towards your Black Belt and feel positive, confident and happy with your progress. You can join anytime and feel the amazing benefits that learning karate can have on your life. The Women’s Only program is extremely user friendly and a great way to develop new lifelong friendships.

Youth Karate

Ages 4 – 12

In the youth program children are taught what karate is all about, while learning in a safe and fun atmosphere.  The program teaches our students how to stretch properly, the basics of calisthenics, and general knowledge of basic kicks, punches, blocks, strikes, and stances.  Of course, no traditional karate program would be complete without instruction in the Japanese etiquette and terminology.. The self-defense taught in this class is non-contact and minimal due to the skill level, the emphasis being on “break away” style of defense.
